In a prior edition of Full Capacity, From Overwhelm to Overflow: The Power of Remembering Grace, we uncovered a quiet danger every leader faces—forgetfulness.
When we forget what we’ve been given, we drift back into performance, pressure, and pride. We begin living from a DO → HAVE → BE mindset—believing our worth is determined by what we produce.
Grace is not something we earn. “From His fullness we have all received, grace upon grace” (John 1:16). Grace is given before effort—and it forms our identity. From identity, we confidently step into the work God has already prepared for us.
Forgetfulness leads to striving. Diligence to remember leads to overflow.
A New-Year Story Leaders Often Miss
During a meeting with the Central Florida Christian Chamber of Commerce board, I shared a story many leaders overlook—the story of a seasoned warrior-king.
As a young man, David defeated a giant. Years later, in another battle, he grew weary—exhausted and moments away from being struck down. But God had already positioned one of David’s mighty men to step in, rescue him, and slay the giant.
Then something remarkable happened.
More giants fell—not by David’s hand—but by the leaders he had raised.
Why? Because wisdom is better than strength, and leadership that multiplies others produces greater fruit than leadership that operates alone.
When Seasons Change, Strategies Must Change
Every leader moves through seasons—and every season requires a new strategy.
What never changes is God’s ongoing work within you:
Your mind — how you think
Your heart — why you lead
Your hands — what you’re called to do
Leadership becomes heavy when we try to carry what God designed us to receive. God strengthens us from the inside out so we can lead without pressure, burnout, or isolation.
His rhythm is simple—and powerful:
Renewed Mind → Restored Heart → Ready Hands
This is how God breaks the cycle of striving, surviving, and struggling—and positions leaders to operate at full capacity.
“These four Philistines were descendants of the giants of Gath, but David and his warriors killed them.” — 2 Samuel 21:22 (NLT)
Raising Leaders vs. Building Platforms
Every leader eventually faces this question:
Am I leading to raise leaders—or to advance myself?
I know the difference personally. Twenty-nine years ago, I began as a transactional leader—focused on tasks, outcomes, and control. But transformational leadership is different. It is centered on people.
God transformed David from shepherd to king—but He didn’t stop there. He raised up mighty men—leaders who extended David’s reach, multiplied his impact, and carried the mission beyond his lifetime.
Your greatest influence will not come from standing alone at the front—but from preparing others to rise and lead with strength.
It’s Not Too Late
If you can breathe, you can hear God’s voice again. You can remember His Word. You can respond to His calling.
Becoming a Transformational Leader
To move from transactional leadership to leading like Jesus, be:
Disciplined in drawing near to God
Diligent in hearing His voice
Determined to do His will—by the power of the Holy Spirit
When you lead this way, you move from:
pressure → purpose
striving → surrender
isolation → Spirit-empowered partnership
This is the path toward leading at full capacity.
