In the last edition of Full Capacity: The Grace to Lead Well, we discovered that grace is not given for stagnation—it’s given for movement.

Grace is God’s ability in you to do what you could never do without Him. But grace is also an invitation: to partner with the Holy Spirit, to lead in freedom, and to exchange striving for surrender.

So the question becomes: What happens when you say yes to that grace?

The answer is found in Proverbs 22:29: “Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.”

Success doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built through intentional effort—developing abilities into skills and honing those skills into competence, until competence matures into excellence.

God-given Ability × Diligent Effort × Time = Skill

Skillfulness × Diligent Effort × Time = Competence

Consistent Competence × Diligent Effort × Time = Excellence

This is the progression that moves you from natural ability to Kingdom-level impact.

• Skillfulness produces excellence and mastery.

• Excellence rewards you with opportunity, authority, and visibility.

But here’s the key: Your diligence to follow the Holy Spirit opens those doors. Consistently listening to His voice prepares you for larger influence. When you steward your ability to hear Him clearly, He positions you where your influence truly matters.

Talent is not enough. Skillfulness submitted to the leadership of the Holy Spirit results in fruit, more fruit, and much fruit—for God’s glory.
