From Overwhelm to Overflow: The Power of Remembering Grace

I Have a Confession

Recently, I forgot what I had been given—and unintentionally found myself striving, surviving, and struggling in business. It was exhausting.

Thankfully, my one consistent thing each day for several years has been friendship with the Holy Spirit. During one of our morning meetings, He asked me a gentle yet piercing question:

“Are you the Provider, or AM I?”

In that moment, truth flooded my heart: I was working harder out of unbelief instead of resting in faith. God, in His mercy, reminded me that everything I am and everything I have flows from His grace.

“The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you.” — 2 Corinthians 13:14 (MSG)

The Problem: Forgetfulness Leads to Striving

When we forget what we’ve been given, we drift back into performance, pressure, and pride. We start living from a DO → HAVE → BE mindset—believing our worth depends on what we produce.

But Jesus invites us into a better way: HAVE → BE → DO.

We already have grace upon grace from His fullness (John 1:16). That grace shapes who we are—God’s new creation. And from that identity, we do the good works He prepared for us long ago.

Forgetfulness leads to striving. Diligence to remember leads to overflow.

The Solution: Begin With Jesus

Every day is a fresh invitation to align with God before stepping into assignment.

When I treat friendship with Him as essential, His grace empowers me for extraordinary work. When I treat it as optional, I rob myself of the very strength I need to fulfill His commission.

Jesus said, “Abide in Me, and My words abide in you.” From abiding comes faith—faith that fuels bold, loving prayers, births Spirit-led obedience, and produces Kingdom results.

Why This Matters for Your Leadership

You may be stepping into your most exciting season in business. But if you neglect the grace of God, you risk carrying the weight in your own strength.

When you maximize your rest in God, you position yourself to maximize your results with God.

Transformation isn’t a one-time event—it’s a continual journey of renewing your mind, walking in faith, and leading at full capacity.

Grace doesn’t just save you—it sustains you. Grace doesn’t just forgive you—it empowers you. Grace doesn’t just start your story—it carries you to the finish.

Your Turn

This week, begin each morning with alignment before assignment. Ask yourself:

  • Am I leading today from striving—or from grace motivated by love and led by the Spirit’s partnership?

  • Am I living from HAVE → BE → DO, or slipping back into DO → HAVE → BE?

  • What grace has God already given me that I need to remember and walk in today?
